Welcome to the #1 source for the best dual containment pipes in Canada – Sandale Ontario – where there is zero tolerance for leaks.
As a trusted supplier and installer of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) piping systems, Sandale Ontario is proud to support your role in sourcing dual containment solutions that are efficient, long-lasting and environmentally responsible.
What is a Dual Containment Pipe?
A dual containment HDPE pipe – also referred to as a double-wall pipe or a double containment pipe – consists of an inner pipe to transport fluid, with an outer containment pipe as a safety barrier in case of failures.
The space between the two pipes can then be monitored for leaks to ensure that any issue can be fixed quickly before negatively affecting the pipe’s contents and the environment that the pipe sits in.
While many different materials can be used in the production of dual containment systems, HDPE is the most popular material. It’s flexible, allowing for thermal expansion and ground movement; it has fusion/welded joints that reduce leaks; it has temperature ratings of -20ºC to +50ºC; it’s highly resistant to chemicals; and it requires very little maintenance.

Why Choose Dual-Containment Pipes Over Other Pipes?
A dual containment pipe is one of the most economical and reliable methods for protecting against leaks of corrosive or hazardous fluids from primary piping. HDPE dual containment pipings utilize the same features as our standard HDPE piping systems, with the added feature of double containment.
There are five reasons why you should choose Sandale Ontario’s dual containment pipes over standard pipes.
Environmental ProtectionSandale Ontario’s dual containment pipes are essential in applications where the transported fluid poses a risk to the environment—such as chemicals, petroleum products, acids, or wastewater. In the event of a leak in the carrier pipe, the containment pipe prevents the substance from exiting the system. | ComplianceProvincial and federal agencies enforce strict rules regarding the handling and transportation of hazardous substances. Dual containment pipes ensure compliance, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas. |
SafetyNo matter the facility or environment, safety comes first. Dual containment pipes reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous materials and protect workers and surrounding communities. | DurabilitySandale Ontario’s HDPE dual containment pipes resist corrosion, chemical attack, and UV degradation, making them highly durable in Ontario. Properly installed dual-containment pipe systems can last 50 or more years with minimal maintenance. |
HDPE Dual Containment Applications in Ontario
When moving dangerous chemicals, extreme pH levels or other volatile liquids, you need a piping system that goes above and beyond for highly demanding environments. Sandale Ontario’s dual containment piping is engineered to handle wherever you need the very best in HDPE.
Municipal wastewater and stormwater infrastructure | Mining operations |
Leachate collection in landfills | Fuel transport at refineries |

HDPE Dual Containment Pipe Sizes
Designed with a carrier pipe and a secondary containment pipe, Sandal Ontario’s dual containment pipes ensure that hazardous or sensitive fluids are securely transported. The carrier pipe size is determined by flow requirements, while the containment pipe must be big enough to contain a leak and allow some access, notably for monitoring.
Sandale Ontario has a wide range of standard dual containment pipes, from diameters 1” x 3” to up to 8” x 12”, and can be as large as 54” x 63”.

Types of Dual Containment Pipes Available in Canada
There are two types of dual containment pipes that Sandal Ontario supplies.
Type I Dual Containment Pipes
Sandale Ontario’s Type I containment systems are highlighted by simultaneous heat fusion during joining to ensure weld integrity while centralizing the carrier pipe within the containment pipe.
Each pipe and fitting can handle extreme temperatures and pressures consistent with HDPE and is a pure, monolithic system once installed. This pipe uses extrusion-welded end plates connecting both carrier and containment pipes together.
Type II Dual Containment Pipes
Sandale Ontario’s Type II pipes include the best of Type I plus custom-milled end seals, which are fusion welded to the carrier and containment pipe.
